The King of the United Kingdom has two birthdays! The official birthday of King Charles the Third is on the third Saturday of June. His actual birthday is on the 14th of November. In the UK, his official birthday is celebrated with a great ceremony.
② What are you studying/training in Okinawa?
I am learning traditional performing arts (Ryukyu flute, sanshin and taiko drums) in Naha City. Thanks to the prefecture and the sanshin association, I am receiving instruction from four teachers: Kiyoyuki Owan, Kentaro Oshiro, Maiya Gessling, and Kazuki Miyazato. On weekends, I go to the National Theatre Okinawa to watch Kumiodori and classical music concerts, and learn about Okinawa’s traditional performing arts.
③ Goals after returning home
After returning from Japan, I will continue to practice the Ryukyu flute, sanshin and taiko drums that I have learnt in Okinawa, and I would like to do my best to perform Okinawan traditional performing arts at Okinawa Day and Japan Matsuri held every year in London. In addition, the London Okinawa Sanshinkai has the opportunity to be invited to perform in various parts of the UK and Europe, so I would like to actively take part in these opportunities and spread the wonder of Okinawan music and the appeal of the traditional instruments across the UK and Europe.
