Worldwide Uchina Network

For more than a century, immigrants have travelled from Okinawa Prefecture around the world. These ancestors took on the challenges of great journeys across oceans, built new lives, and became part of intercultural societies, however they also inherited Okinawa's traditions and cultures, and preserved their Uchina identity. It is estimated that there are about 400,000 Okinawan descendants across the world. The Uchina Network has developed networks and aims to share Okinawa’s soft power such as its unique culture, climate and history both domestically and overseas, and to promote the interest in and possibilities for Okinawa's future.
