概要：この調査は、日本語を母語とする日本人の属性や言語に対する意識、日本語を使用する社会的環境について調査するものです。

Purpose: The purpose of the research is to reveal the contexts (e.g.,
family, community, school) where Japanese is spoken and allow for a
general characterization of Japanese heritage speakers in the United States.

目的：この調査の目的は、日本語が話されている文脈（例：家族、地域、学校）を明らかにし、米国における日系人の特徴を明らかにすることです。

Procedures: There are questions that contain multiple choices and questions where you type your answers. For the questions you can type in your answer, you may answer these questions either in Japanese or in English. Please write any response for the typing questions as you will not be able to exit the survey with blank answers. The survey will take about 20-25 mins to complete. At the end of the survey, you have an option to enroll in a follow-up interview. If you are interested in a follow-up interview, please leave your name, phone number, and email address at the end of the survey. I will contact you later. If you are not interested, please check “no I am not interested” and exit the survey. After completing this survey, you will receive $5 amazon gift card.

調査の方法：複数の選択肢から選ぶ質問と、答えを入力する質問があります。答えを入力する質問では、日本語でも英語でも答えることができます。空欄があるとアンケートが終了できないため、入力式の質問には必ず回答を記入してください。アンケートの所要時間は約20～25分です。アンケートの最後に、フォローアップインタビューに参加するオプションがあります。フォローアップインタビューにご興味のある方は、アンケートの最後にお名前、電話番号、Eメールアドレスをご記入ください。後ほどご連絡いたします。ご興味がない場合は、「いいえ」にチェックを入れて、アンケートを終了してください。このアンケートにお答えいただいた方には、5ドルのアマゾンギフトカードを差し上げます。

Risks: There is a potential for sensitive questions regarding sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. in the survey. There is the risk of a breach of confidentiality. The data will be securely stored in the cloud, using Carnegie Mellon’s secure cloud storage service. Everyone who will be interacting with the participants at the interviews (as of now, it will be only me) will have to complete and up to date with the training to work with human data and must be on the IRB form.

Payment Confidentiality: Payment methods, especially those facilitated by third-party vendors (such as Venmo, Amazon, PayPal), may require that the researchers and/or the vendor collect and use personal information
(such as your first and last name, email addresses, phone numbers, banking information) provided by you in order for your payment to be processed. As with any payment transaction, there is the risk of a breach of confidentiality from the third-party vendor. All personal information collected by the researcher will be held as strictly confidential and stored in a password-protected digital file, or in a locked file cabinet, until payments are processed and reconciled. This
information will be destroyed at the earliest acceptable time. Personal information held by the third-party vendor will be held according to their terms of use policy.

Compensation & Costs:  There will be no cost to you if you participate in this study. After you complete the study, you will receive a $5 compensation in Amazon gift card.

Future Use of Information:  In the future, once we have removed all identifiable information from your data, we may use the data for our future research studies, or we may distribute the data to other researchers for their research studies. representative). Sharing of data with other researchers will only be done in such a manner that you will not be identified.

The company will have access to the research data that you produce and any identifiable information that you share with them while using Qualtrics.
Please note that Carnegie Mellon does not control the Terms and Conditions of the company(ies) or how they will use or protect any information that they collect.
