②What am I studying in Okinawa?
I am studying Ryukyu Cuisine under a certified “Successor of Ryukyu Culinary Tradition.” From its ruling as the Ryukyu Kingdom to modern-day Okinawa, the food and cuisine have also transformed with time. Learning about Ryukyu cuisine involves not only learning about the food and how it is made but also understanding Okinawa’s rich history and language. I am also learning the nutritional aspect of the cuisine and its ingredients.
③Goals upon returning to my home country
I want to share what I have learned about Ryukyu cuisine with the Okinawan community in America. I want to be able to teach how to make certain foods and share its significance. I also hope to promote the nutritional benefits of Okinawan ingredients and foods with my background in nutrition. Food is a great way to introduce others to new cultures. I also hope to be able to introduce Okinawa to more people through its traditional cuisine.
