4.Certification of Uchina Goodwill Ambassador
During the middle of the Meiji era, migrants from Okinawa traveled afar including South America, North America, and Hawaii. Five generations of descendants, about 300,000 Uchinanchu, live overseas. In August 1990, the "1st World Uchinanchu Festival" was held with the aim of building a pioneering and active Uchinanchu network across the world. The "Uchinanchu Goodwill Ambassador" system was established through community networking. Currently, 272 people are certified as a "Uchina - Goodwill Ambassador" and they are a bridge between their local community and Okinawa Prefecture.
