Martin Niikado

I’m Martin Shinjo, I’m third generation. I’m from Argentina. My Ancestral home is Eishiro-Jima Uruma city. My mom’s ancestral home is Nanjo-city Oozato. Now I’m at the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts studying industrial arts. Nice to meet you

The Argentina Okinawa Association

What is it like--- I’m sorry I don’t really know how to say it in Japanese, but at the Okinawa Association from 15 years old--- Now I’m 33 years old. I’ve been studying Okinawan sanshin and buyo dance.

When I started the san-shin at 15 in Argentina, I thought that Okinawa culture was really interesting. I really loved it, so I wanted to go to Okinawa.

Current activities

Craft art, I started with Lacquering, as well as Dyeing and weaving, and I studied pottery.

Future Outlook

I want to spread Okinawan culture in Argentina. I want to spread Uchina culture among the younger generation.

A Message to the Youth

Okinawan culture is really interesting. Those of you who are 3rd and 4th generation in Argentina, I hope you gain and interest in Okinawa, and come here.
